Originally trained as a nurse, Jan had wanted to work with food since her teenage years.
Always a passionate foodie, living in Melbourne was the beginning of her food journey and after owning a printing company for more than a decade, she decided that it was time for a complete change.
Her real food journey began in early 2004 with the purchase of a Delicatessen and Café in Auckland. She then spent the following five years offering food workshops either demonstrating, working with or talking about different food options/ideas. She catered for weddings, birthdays and other special events.
In conjunction with these workshops, Jan was fortunate to work with different New Zealand chefs offering a range of varied cuisines during events and workshops.
After the sale of the Deli, Jan opened Punanga Lodge and spent the following 10 years working with overseas clients offering accommodation, private functions, catering, weddings, plus dining experiences for small groups, as well as a variety of one day or weekend workshops.
Five years ago Jan and her family decided it was time to come back home to the Bay.
Since being back, Jan has offered a variety of workshops, catering and private dinners. Workshops vary from themed functions, grazing platters, Mexican, Portuguese tapas, Sourdough breads, Cake decorating/baking, Curing meats, Bacon, Salami, Sausage making, plus her absolute passion… Cheesemaking, especially goats cheeses, having spent time in France to further my knowledge on the art of cheese making.
