Gordon Russell
Gordon is a well-known and respected figure in the Hawkes Bay wine industry. In his 30+ year career as Esk Valley Winemaker he pioneered many of the varieties and practises utilised in the industry today. From the historic Esk Valley cellars in Bay View flowed some of New Zealand’s finest wines, winning many awards both nationally and internationally, culminating in Gordon being named New Zealand Winemaker of the Year in 2007.
Since retiring in 2023, Gordon is utilising his insight and knowledge of Hawkes Bay wine, its winemakers and its vineyards in his personalised wine tours at gordonrussellwine.com. Outside of wine Gordon’s many other interests include records and music, fishing, golf, gardening, cooking and eating.
